This project was for the sales premises and offices of the firm Vigaceros, S.L., a company that supplies materials to hardware stores.  The concept was to expand the old premises located in the Oeste industrial estate, an architecturally unattractive area.

The focus point of the office area is a 14 metre Vierendeel beam, below which the individual offices are arranged. The ground floor has been left totally open and is the sales area. The new area formed above the pre-existing industrial building is linked to the old area via the air conditioning ducts, forming what is perceived as a technological insect and establishing a symbiotic relationship between the two bodies.

The materials used where those provided by Vigaceros.

The frontage, made of U-glass, perforated galvanized metal sheets and pieces of COR-TEN steel, overlap each other and are linked by flat surfaces and folds, in a effort to diffuse the difference from one piece to the next. These materials are not fixed at the corners, but on interior points, making the structure lighter. The perforated steel frontage has no substructure, because the U-shaped fold supports the construction. Thus, allowing a more efficient use of materials and a greater appearance of levity. The interior illumination and the company’s name over the galvanized metal are different focus points that at different times of day appear more solid or disappear depending on the incidence of the light.
