Architecture as a present.

The commission consisted of temporarily enclosing a portion of public space in order to house a commercial event at the same time as spring coming.

Taking for granted the unavoidable design requirements of recycling and environmental improvement, we designed a pavilion that was made out of 5000 seasonal plants: some were ornamental, others were aromatic (Petunias, Begonias, Tagetes, Thymes and Carnations) and all of them provided shade and shelter at the same time as revealed the time of the year with their vivid colours.

The structure (that needed neither foundation nor anchoring on the pavement where it stood up), as well as the triple twist hexagonal mesh (that worked as a support for the plant pots), were reused and will be reusable for future installations. The background black curtain and the neon sign on the front were also recycled, and came from a temporary stand that had been used in another event a few months before.

Finally, the concern about what to do with the pavilion materials after the event took us to suggest the client to give the plants as a gift to the citizens. In this way, that skin that solved the aesthetic issues of the installation, now becomes a new element, ready to continue its life cycle in another place.

In summary, 5000 potted plants gave shape to a temporary event. Three days later, 5000 citizens received a portion of the pavilion, in the form of a plant.
