Technological space to promote interaction and creativity.

We were awarded this project by a savings bank, as part of its social works programme, to design a “technological space to promote interaction and creativity”.

We started with a blank palette, a diaphanous space of 270 m2 located on the first floor of the town’s important Cultural Centre. Due to the fact that this was to be a temporary location, we were asked to work to a budget, with the prerequisite that the corporate identity used in other similar projects be respected.

The design responds to these requirements with one sole element: a continuous white wall, 2.7 meters high running round the whole perimeter of the premises; absorbing in its path the small enclosed areas required for various needs (recording room, control, laboratory...) leaving the rest as a flexible space to house the different activities that may take place.

With this we visually define the height of the area: the existing ceiling remains above the white wall and is used for the various service installations which are left on show, and can be easily disassembled for use elsewhere.

Finally, by using a grey polyurethane resin on the existing concrete floor the whole area becomes one.

From a construction viewpoint, it was decided that all the work be carried out using dry construction methods, to cause as less inconvenience as possible, as the rest of the building was in use at the same time.
