BELEN PEDREÑO DENTAL CLINIC
XVIII Premios de Arquitectura de la Región de Murcia 2015
According to client’s needs, the project consisted in the complete refurbishment of existing commercial premises at minimum cost to be used as a dental clinic. At the same time, however, it should create a comfortable and attractive space for potential patients, so as to enter a more and more competitive sector.
Therefore we faced the project from the simplicity and the economy of means, trying to make the most of the available resources to get the maximum aesthetic profitability. Spaces had to transmit quality and precision. Technology at the service of health.
A simple layout divides the floor plan into public area (an only space for reception and waiting room) and clinical area (several rooms around a common hallway), clearly demarcated and connected by a transition space. From the exterior, we took the decision of giving up a little portion of space to the street, in order to get rid of the chamfered corner façade and show the clinic as two clear boxes that detach themselves to make up the entrance.
When it comes to the finishings’ choice, guided by the previously mentioned criteria, we focused on the public spaces. Reception walls are covered by a silver metallic chain curtain, a durable and resistant material that at the same time works as a separating element and voluntarily moves away from the medical character of a waiting room; whereas a custom-cut dot-pattern opaque vinyl offers a smile in the ceiling.
On the other hand, the clinical area hallway has been materialized as a continuous cladding of white lacquered MDF, inspiring sensations of quality and cleanliness.
Both finishings are enhanced by the use of light, flooding walls with RGB led light (light blue in the reception, warm orange in the hall way) in order to characterize and distinguish both spaces.
